KAMPALA MAYORS

KAMPALA started as an urban settlement in 1890 with the setting up shop by Sir Fredrick Lugard on Old Kampala Hill. This became the administrative headquarters of the Imperial British East African Company (IBEAC). The company administered the colonial territory that would come to be known as Uganda. Formal British annexation took place in 1900 following the signing of the Buganda Agreement.
In the intervening years, Kampala grew as the commercial capital of Uganda even though the colonial administrative duties had been relocated to Entebbe (also once known as Port Alice). It wasn’t until 1950 that Kampala got its first mayor and today it has had 14 mayors. The list below are their worships and the years they reigned:
