5 days:Queen Elizabeth and Bwindi Forest Park

Day 1
Our guide will pick you up from your hotel and drive you off to Bwindi national park. You will have a stop over at the Equator and proceed. This drive takes you through the, Kigezi Highland with fabulously terraced hills, grasslands of Ankole a common sight famous for Long horned cattle. Have Lunch en route and proceed to the home of Mountain gorillas. Bwindi Impenetrable forest is a home to 326 gorillas almost half of the world’s population of Mountain gorilla, 346 species of birds and over 200 species of butterflies. The afro- montane forest has a dense under storey of fern , vines and shrubs. On arrival you will check in for dinner and overnight at Luxurious Gorilla resort camp, L. Kitandara tented camps, or Buhoma Community bandas.

Day 2
Wake up very early in the morning and take breakfast before you set off for gorilla tracking which is one of Uganda’s major tourism highlight. Set off early with your rangers to track the gorillas. The ecstasy of your encounter will expunge the complexity of the potentially strenuous trek. Spend time in awe watching the gorillas go about their activities. Each encounter is different and has its own rewards, but you are likely to enjoy the close view of adults feeding, grooming and resting as the youngsters frolic and swing from vines in a delightfully playful display. Return to camp exhilarated to relieve the encounter with friends over a drink. Have dinner and over night at Buhoma Homestead or Community Bandas.

Day 3
Depart northwards for Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive takes you through the unique western rift valley escarpment. Indulge in a game drive in Ishasha sector in search of tree climbing lions before proceeding to the Mweya Peninsular; park headquarters.. The park boasts of a variety of animals including some of the animals in the big 5 like; lions, buffaloes, elephants, bushbucks, and the rare occasional leopard. Have dinner and over night at Mweya Safari Lodge/ Camp/Hostel on the peninsular overlooking Lake Edward and the lush Kazinga channel.

Day 4

Wake up very early in the morning and proceed to Kyambura Gorge for a thrilling Chimpanzee safari. This gorge is the natural habitat of habituated chimpanzees. Your guided walk may last three to five hours and in addition to seeing the chimps, plus other primates species encounters like the red tailed, colobus monkeys, baboons, and velvet monkeys, among others. It is imperative to be aware that the chimpanzee tracking is only subject to availability of permits and good weather because occasional flooding can make the trails impassable. After lunch, drive to the channel bank for an afternoon launch cruise on the Kazinga Channel, which joins Lakes Edward and George. This watercourse is filled with schools of hippos, buffaloes, and elephants, which can be seen at the banks. The bank also harbors a diversity of birds on the channel. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5

Before sunrise go for the early morning game drive to catch-up with the early risers and predators returning to their hideouts. You are likely to meet grazing hippos, elephants, lions, spotted hyenas and leopards, bushbuck, water buck and stripped jackal and of-course the several warthogs. Visit a Salt Lake (salt explosions) to see how salt is traditionally mined. The customs that are attached to the communities and the myths behind them are interesting. Return to Kampala with packed lunch en route. Along the way you will see banana plantations, long horned cattle and the undulating hills of Ankole. Stop over at the Equator in Masaka, Mpambire drum makers or any craft display centre before proceeding to Kampala.
