NAKAPIRIPIRIT DISTRICT

Formerly part of Moroto District, in 1974 Nakapiripirit existed as south Karamoja District, but was in 1980 merged with Central Karamoja to form Moroto District. IN 2001, it was again carved out of Moroto District.

LOCATION

It borders Moroto in the north, Katakwi in the west, Sironko and Kapchorwa in the south.

POPULATION

153,862 people, 76.970 female, 76.892 males.

MAIN LANGUAGE;

Ng’akarimojong and Kiswahili.

ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES

Agriculture with emphasis on food crops such as Sorghum, maize, finger millet, pigeons, Pease, g-nuts, sunflower, sweet potatoes and beans. Vegetables, fruits and cattle rearing.

EDUCATION SERVICES

The district has a total of 45 primary schools with 41 government, and 4 community schools. For secondary schools, the district has 2 are government schools. No Teacher training college.

HEALTH SERVICES

The district has 4 Government dispensaries (II), 3 health centres (III) at county, 2 health centres (IV) at sub-district and no hospital. More so, it has 1 private/NGO dispensaries and 3 sub dispensaries.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

There is a prison Farm. Kadam Mountain is another attraction.
